Police: Gang members went on window-smashing spree

Police charged two Northside residents today with smashing car windows throughout Peterson Park over the past few days and threatening to shoot a North Lincoln Avenue man.

Jesus Prado, 20,  of the 4800 block of Washtenaw, is a member of the Latin Kings gang, and Lisa Perry, 19, of the 2300 block of Jarvis, is a member of Latina Queens, according to a police report.

They were charged after Perry admitted that she and Prado broke numerous car windows, including some on Leland and Virginia Avenues, with a tire-iron, a police report said.

A resident of Peterson Park called police on Friday evening to report that two windows on her car that was parked on the 5000 block of North Washtenaw had been broken out. Officers noticed two other cars on that block also had smashed windows.

At 3:02 a.m. on Saturday morning, a resident of West Ainslie Street reported hearing glass being broken on the street outside his window.

He also saw a group of "youthful males in a red sporty type vehicle drive into the west alley of Hamilton," according to police reports.

Police found two cars on the North Side of Ainslie with shattered driver's side windows, and two with shattered rear windows.

At 3:10 a.m. a resident of the 5000 block of North Lincoln Avenue heard breaking glass and saw a man hitting cars with a tire iron, police reports said.

When the witness told the man to stop, the man with the tire iron threatened to shoot him, said the report.

The witness identified the car as a red Ford Taurus and described the offenders to police.

Police found a car matching the description at 4908 N. Fransisco Ave. Prado had minor cuts and blood on his right hand fingers, a tire iron next to his feet, and a bottle of open brandy, the police report said.

Prado was charged with aggravated assault and Perry was charged with aggravated assault and for being a party to a crime.
