Taxi driver cited in accident that injures two pedestrians

Three people were injured Thursday after a taxicab driver  accidentally accelerated in reverse sending the cab up over the curb into two pedestrians, police said.

Taxi driver Brian Duako, 38, was cited for negligent driving, according to Chicago Police spokeswoman Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti.

Duako was transported to Northwestern Hospital folllowing the 8 a.m. accident at 440 West Adams. His injuries were "not life threatening" according to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Richard Rosado.

Two female pedestrians, ages 23 and 61, were also taken to local hospitals suffering from injuries that were not life threatening, Rosado said.

According to police, Duako thought he had put his taxicab in park and upon exiting the vehicle realized it was in reverse. When he jumped back into his vehicle, he accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, police said.
