A 28-year-old University of Chicago student was shot to death outside his off-campus apartment Monday in what may have been a robbery attempt, police said.
Amadou Cisse, a 28-year-old international student from Senegal, was earning his doctorate in chemistry and was scheduled to graduate next month, according to police.
Chicago Police spokeswoman and officer Laura Kubiak
said Cisse was shot one time in the chest by an unknown assailant as he was walking home at about 1:30 a.m.
Witnesses reported hearing a gunshot and seeing a dark car speeding away from the scene in front of Cisse's apartment at 61st South Ellis Avenue in Hyde Park. Police have no suspects.
The university is offering a $10,000 award for information leading to an arrest.
