Two armed robbers stripped to their underwear in an unsuccessful attempt to evade arrest Monday, police said.
Shortly before midnight Monday, police patrolling the 5th District noticed two people dressed in their underwear leave an airbrush shop in the 11200 block of South Michigan Avenue, said police spokesman Patrick Camden.
They told the officers that they had just been robbed at gunpoint. The officers entered the building and noticed two people flee toward the back, said Camden.
The officers called for assistance, and after securing the entrances of the multi-unit building, police directed all those inside to exit with their hands in plain sight, said Camden.
Two more people wearing nothing but underwear emerged from the building and claimed to have just been robbed. Suspicious, officers detained them, said Camden.
They were later identified by witnesses as the robbers, said Camden.
Police arrested two others as well, one who hid in a closet on the second floor of the building and was found by members of the SWAT Team, and another who was waiting in a parked vehicle, Camden said.
